Grade 3

 

Students in grade 3 attend computer class for 40 minutes once per week. Mrs. Arbolino's third grade attends computer class eighth period on Wednesdays.  Mrs. Threlkeld's class has computers fourth period on Thursdays.

Third grade students receive a unique username and password.  They are taught to save their work in their home directory on the server. Basic file management is learned.
 
Software and hardware vocabulary is learned as well as the basic features of the Windows operating system. Students gain experience inputting and accessing text.
 
Students learn appropriate keyboarding techniques with attention on keyboarding accuracy. 
 
Students continue to create finished documents using word processing software. 
 
Software is also used to practice math skills learned in the classroom.
 
Students continue to learn how to research using the internet and encyclopedia software. 
 
Lessons learned in Music class are reinforced using software in computer class.
 
Additionally, students begin internet safety lessons.
